Dr. Petrova received her Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego where she conducted research in chemical kinetics with Forman A. Williams, a pioneer in the field of combustion and the author of Combustion Theory book.
Dr. Petrova is the creator of the Successful Unemployment Toolkit.
After receiving her doctorate, she went to work in industry as a development engineer at Reaction Design, working on the CHEMKIN software package. She then transitioned from the research and development group to sales and marketing, where she was the go-to technical person for the company’s customers and distributors.
She has created and taught courses on the computer simulation of reactive flows and trained professionals all over the globe, including the USA, Canada, China, Japan and Germany. She has published papers in peer-reviewed journals and has presented technical talks at conferences such as International Symposium on Combustion, ASME Turbo Expo, and AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit. She has served on a National Science Foundation Review Panel on Materials and Combustion.
She is a member of the Executive Board of Directors for the Franklin Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting education and innovation in America’s technology and science fields.
She is a featured speaker for the ACS Speaker Service and an official instructor for the American Chemical Society courses.
Current ACS Courses:
Computer Simulation of Reactive Flows
Essentials of Chemical Kinetics
She is a cofounder of the Women in Combustion group, and is an active member of the American Chemical Society, the Society of Automotive Engineers, and Toastmasters International.
Her most recent instructional webinars, hosted by NAFEMS (National Agency for Finite Element Methods and Standards), include “10 Ways of Increasing your Value as an Engineering Professional” and “Contributing to the Bottom Line with Computer Modeling.”
She writes a monthly column for the Product Design and Development on-line magazine and is a contributing author for the Simple-Talk magazine.
